Chelsea for the second week running have won 6-0 taking maximum points from their two games. Let's also be honest here, for the second week running come half time, no one would have thought we would finish scoring six!.
For me Chelsea started off yesterday possibly showing Wigan too much respect. Chelsea looked as though they were playing well within themselves after what happened at the DW Stadium last season. that possibly because Carlo Ancelotti even spoke of urging caution ahead of the game but despite some long range efforts that proved to be food and drink for Cech in goal, we did not have to worry.
People can and will speak of Wigan and their problems they have at the moment but for the majority of the first half they played really well. They had dominated the possession stakes, had pressurised Chelsea when we were on the ball and we had very little to write home about.
That all changed when Ashley Cole got in down the left and played a cross into Lampard, who flicked the ball towards the far post. Kirkland had parried the ball and Malouda was on the rebound like a flash before any of the Wigan defenders and prodded the ball home. 1-0 Chelsea at half time and Roberto Martinez and his players would have felt hard done by.
The second half however was a completley different story!. It was almost like Ancelotti had told his players to up the tempo and start playing and Chelsea did just that more or less straight from kick off.
Just three minutes into the second half John Obi Mikel got hold of the ball just inside the Chelsea half, spotted Anelka wide right pointing for a ball to be played to him down the line and Mikel played a sublime ball over the top and into space. The pass was that perfect, Anelka never had to adjust his stride and as Kirkland came out Anelka buried the ball into the far corner. 2-0 Chelsea and at that stage we all we have thought game over!.
Chelsea made it three when this time Malouda broke down the left and floated a cross over to the far post, Didier Drogba kind of stabbed the ball towards goal without any real conviction but Anelka was on hand to out jump two defenders to head the ball into the net as it had bounced up into the air 6 yards out after Drogba had made contact with it. Yes there was an argument for Anelka being offside but it had to be given, it wasn't, 3-0 Chelsea.
At this stage Malouda came off for Kalou to come on and what an impact Kalou had. Kalou made it 4-0 when Drogba received the ball on the halfway line with a defender close to him, Didier played it round him and broke free and looked like he was heading in on goal. Drogba on the run towards goal, took a dodgey touch that shifted the ball to the left away from goal. Luckily enough, he was still outpacing the defence, he managed to touch the ball past another defender into the path of Kalou who managed slot the ball into the net with ease, 4-0 Chelsea.
Kalou struck again and made it 5-0 after some interplay down the left hand side near the corner flag. The ball was played back to Drogba who looked up and played a first time cross into the box for Kalou who managed to flick the ball past Kirkland into the net to make it 5-0.
Just when we think its all done and dusted Chelsea made it six as Ferriera, on for Ivanovic, made a run down the right hand side, got to the byline, looked up and saw Benayoun unmarked on the penalty spot, played it to him and Benayoun side footed the ball into the bottom left corner. 6-0 Chelsea for the second week running!.
Two things have really impressed me about these two games so far. Obviously the first one is our killer instinct to put out chances away and to really kill teams off. Some people still to this day refer to Jose's Chelsea were we would establish a lead and sit on it, well its safe to say Carlo's Chelsea plays a very different way and its fantastic to see. That's 20 goals scored and 0 conceded in our last three Premier League games!.
The second thing that has impressed me is that we have taken a while to get started and still looked like we have been playing within ourselves!. Just imagine if we had played like we have in the second half of both games from the beginning.
Just remember people, we are still a couple of weeks away from full fitness as Carlo said but we need to make sure we focus on three points in the next game too so let's just take each game at a time. Some rival supporters will moan that we have an easier start to them (on paper) but you still have to step out on the pitch and perform. Chelsea have done that for two halves out of four this season so far and have the only 100% record now in the Premier League, scored 12 goals and haven't conceded!
The future looks bright for Chelsea!
KTBFFH!.
8 more would make it 20...
