Well what a difference a week can make in football!. Just over a week ago before Chelsea made the trip to the South Coast things we looking bleak. We had just drawn 1-1 away at Blackburn and lost ground on United as we sat 4 points behind them in the Premier League.
Things didn't look good at all. We weren't playing well and our second half display against Blackburn have raised questions about Ancelotti and the team in general. The press were going to town about us, as usual knocking Chelsea every chance they get and it wasn't a good couple of days for us fans. The Sun reported after the Blackburn game:
"NO CONFIDENCE, no belief, no composure, no inspiration, no spirit, no resilience, no idea, no chance. Chelsea are shot to pieces. They know it, we know it. Most importantly Manchester United and Arsenal know it. The title is a two-horse race now for sure. The much-fancied Blues nose-dived here as dramatically as Kauto Star at Cheltenham" (source www.thesun.co.uk)
So we made the trip to Portsmouth hoping that Ancelotti made some changes to the system and played to our strengths in what turned out to be a must win game!.
Ancelotti made the changes, we played better and put in a fantastic performance to win 5-0 and took the much needed three points to be only one behind United. Things were looking brighter, but as I had reported at the time it was only the start!.
Next was Villa at home who are a good side fighting for the Top four finish this season, again another must win game for Chelsea as this is the position we have put ourselves in after poor performances of late. Ancelotti stated that we would know after the game if our "Bad moment" was over.
What was to follow surprised all of us Chelsea fans, and the Premier League as a whole. To beat Villa 7-1 made a real statement to United and Arsenal that we were right back in it!. United had also won at Bolton 4-0 but it was Arsenal who stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Birmingham.
Thats 12 goals within the space of four days after Ancelotti finally switched to the 4-3-3 formation and we beat Villa without Drogba being on the Pitch! Things were looking up, we have our "swagger" back and our confidence levels are good ahead of the United game which 4-goal man Lampard spoke about after the game.
So on Monday this week we were contemplating a hard game, a possible title-decider at Old Trafford knowing that we have a full week to prepare for the game, whereas United had a trip to make in the Champions League in Munich before they had to face us.
Who would of thought United would of lost the way they did and Wayne Rooney would be ruled out of the game this time last week? None of us, and it has to be to our advantage!. Rooney is a massive blow to United as he was playing great and having his best ever season.
So with our full week of preparation and rest for the players, with United's game in midweek and the Rooney injury surely the tables have turned back in Chelsea's favour ahead of the game come Saturday.
What a difference a week makes in football!
CAREFREE & KTBFFH EVERYONE!
