Breaking unconfirmed news on SkySports this hour is that Chelsea have opened negotiations with Nicolas Anelka for a new 2-year contract with the club. This is great news for the club as we look to maintain our squad and quality we have. If Chelsea play Anelka through the middle up front then we have someone who is World-Class without question. The problem is if Ancelotti continues to deploy him wide of a three man attack!. In my view he doesn't do a good enough job.
At the weekend Anelka had an effective game and played better than he had done in recent weeks against Inter Milan and Man City . He has been asked about doing a job for the side out wide before and he has said that he doesn't mind playing there, but his performances in those two big games to me shows that he wants to come inside all the time and his natural instinct is to not attack the byline and get his crosses in.
The problem that Carlo Ancelotti faces is does he stick with the one through the middle or go with Nico up front next to Didier? The fact of the matter is that they have only scored in the same game three times this season which isn't good enough for players of their class. Nico has however, showed his class when Didier has been absent from the side and has led the line well and scored many important goals.
Let's hope that Nico gets back on the scoresheet asap, the deal is done and dusted before too long and Ancelotti gets the best out of Anelka as there is no doubt when he is at his best, he is one of the best in the League!
(How would you deploy Anelka? Up front on his own? Through the middle with Didier? or out Wide? I want to see what the rest of you think.)
