Even in the most testing of times for John Terry at the moment he put everything to one side to concentrate on another important game for Chelsea and with that stepped up when needed to head home and give Chelsea a much needed three points.
It was a professional job done at Turf Moor. Apart from a lapse moment from Alex (as for some reason he tried to flick the ball back over his head and failed so to his credit, Fletcher took his goal really well as he drilled a shot low into the net giving Cech no chance) we played well and controlled the game once more.
Ancelotti made two changes to the side that beat Birmingham in midweek. Deco was rested so Zhirkov came into the side and as predicted in my preview, Carvalho was rested to make way for Alex to come in at the back.
Chelsea started well and had most of the pressure in the game. Shots early doors from Lampard and Joe Cole went over the bar and were blocked by the impressive debutant for Burnley Leon Cort. Apart from when Ashley Cole had to defend and clear the ball away in our six yard box we never looked in danger and we took a well deserved lead when once more Nico Anelka slotted home. Joe Cole wide right chipped the ball over the defenders head to Malouda just wide left of the far post, he in turn looks up and see's Anelka alive to the pull back, so flicks the ball back square to him and he slotted home past Jensen 1-0 Chelsea.
Burnley shot well over the bar and Frank Lampard shoots wide and they were the only attempts of any note for the remainder of the first half. So at half-time Chelsea lead 1-0 and look comfortable.
I have said it before, but to their credit Burnley come out and look to take the game to Chelsea. Alex makes the mistake 5 mins into the second half, Fletcher takes his chance and its now 1-1 and we have a game on our hands.
But to our credit this time, we get on the ball again and calm things down. Joe Cole has the ball in the net after a great passing move but is deemed to be offside so it doesn't stand. (you have to say looking at the reply that you have seen those given, it was tight but I guess could of gone either way, and in this case it goes against us).
Just after the hour Lampard fires one at goal and its parried by Jensen and Ballack flufs the rebound!. Alex then has a couple of half chances and Eagles has a chance for Burnley but none taken. Chelsea are then make a tactical change as Sturridge comes on for Joe Cole and then an enforced change as Ash Cole comes off with a knock and is replaced by Deco.
Then with about 10 or so mins left JT steps up and answers the boo-boys in style. A corner is floated in, JT is unmarked and heads home unchallenged into the corner from 10 yards. Chelsea back on top 2-1.
To be fair Burnley never gave up and Eagles has a good chance to level up but shoots wide. Lamps fires one over once more in the dying moments but it doesn't matter. The Ref blows up and we have won 2-1 and have another three points in the bag! A good result once more.
You could say that we should of played better, should of created more chances and scored more goals, but I as I have said before, its a times like these that we pick up the three points no matter how well we play or how many goals we score. We are now approaching the critical time in the season where the title could be won and lost and trust our leader to step up and get the win.
