Chelsea rattled in another four goals yesterday as we beat Bolton 4-0 at the Reebok stadium and let's face it, it could of been so much more. After the display in midweek I predicted that the game yesterday would be a much more difficult game and to Bolton's credit for 43 minutes of the first half it was.
It was only when just before half time, Drogba was through in on goal and Jay-Lloyd Samuel brought him down in the box. Samuel was off and we had the penalty. Lampard stepped up and despatched the pen 1-0, Bolton down to 10-men and it was virtually game over.
Chelsea came out in the second half and dominated the game. With second half goals from Deco, an own goal and then finally a goal of the season contender from Drogba it made it 4-0 to the blues but really could of been more.
Thats 17 goals in 4 games for Chelsea and nothing conceeded and we look as though we have finally put to bed the defensive nightmares that we had in the last two away games against Villa and Wigan.
On paper any game against Chelsea is going to be a hard game but when you are down to 10-men its made more difficult when our passing game takes hold and we create chance after chance. With Anelka and Drogba both on form, causing havoc to opposition defences through the middle or down the channels, Drogba holding the ball up when its played into his feet and bringing our star studdied midfield into the game, then we will always create no matter who we face!
Yesterday was no different. Our midfield ran riot and there looks to be a perfect balance with Essien holding and Ballack and Lampard either side of him. Its just who plays behind the front two? Joe Cole in previous games has done well, but again Deco showed his class on the ball and composure as he cut inside the defenders tackle onto his left foot and curled the ball into the corner to make it 2-0.
He also had a part to play our fourth goal and it was party time at the Reebok. Anelka once more broke down the wing and held the ball up outside the box. He chipped a ball into Deco on the "D" and he chested the ball first time into Lampard who had made a run across the box to find space. Lampard without adjusting his stride flicked the ball up with his back-heel over the top of the defenders and Drogba turned and volleyed the ball into the bottom corner. It really was a class goal and would be talked about till the cows come home if it happened on a global stage!
This was an important win for Chelsea yesterday. We put pressure on United (who later in the day picked up a win at home against Blackburn) and Liverpool lost once more and thats 5 times this season already. Surely it will be a 2-horse race so we have to keep playing well, keep together and show the world what we are capable of. You have to say in the last four games we have made a great start in doing that so we have to kick on from there and make sure that by the time we take to the field next week against United its more of the same!
Come on the Chels!
