So as we had all hoped for Chelsea got their first three points of the group stages in the Champions League last night at home to Porto in the torrential rain last night!! A solitary goal from Nicolas Anelka was enough to take the points but you have to say we were far from comfortable on the night.
Credit where credit is due, Porto are a good side and created a host of chances and but for Petr Cech we could of been looking at a whole different story. Overall Porto had the greater possession in the game with 54% to 46% and had an equal share of shots on goal and on target so we had to work hard for our win.
At times we looked sloppy and looked dodgey to say the least and with the last five minutes or so with a mentality of hoof the ball clear it wasn't the normal calm and composed side of Chelsea we have become so used to.
But the weather last night had a major effect on the game. But, after all we got the three points with a well taken goal from Nico just after the break. To be fair he should of put it away first time, but the rebound was a great finish! We missed Bosingwa and Drogba last night, especially Drogba as it looked as though we didn't really have an "outball" for someone to hold the ball up and trouble the Porto defence. Sometimes balls into the channel for Anelka do not work and last night was one of them.
Like I have said when is all said and done, its a massive three points for Chelsea considering the other game ended in a draw so we sit two points clear at the top of the group. It wasn't pretty and it was a bit heart in mouth but Carlo got his first victory as Chelsea manager in the Champions League and we move onto the next game!
