With the news that Real Madrid will have spent over £130 million pounds by the new season on just two players I have to ask the question "Will the transfer market go into Overdrive?". Milan and Man United will now have money to burn and this in no doubt will force the price of players through the roof. There has already been reports in the press that Bayern are now holding out for £65 Million for Frank Ribery so it seems as though the world has gone mad.
It's now obvious that there is going to be numerous big name transfer deals being struck this summer with the likes of Madrid looking to offload their deadwood and United looking to spend the money from the Real deal but will we see Chelsea flex their financial muscles once again? The problem Chelsea will face now is the fact that clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Bayern and Milan have seen the amount of money paid out in recent days and will think that if these are the figured being paid now then their players still under contract will be worth x amount and this is where it can get silly.
The figures being banded about are outrageous for players who do not even have Premiership Experience and you have to ask the question is it really worth the risk?. Look at the Shevchenko deal. Chelsea paid £30 Million to bring him to the Bridge and you have to say in all honesty he just didn't cut it. So you have to ask whether or not the likes of Pato, Ribery, Aguero or Pirlo are really worth taking on that gamble.
On the flip side I am thinking do we really need to spend big this Summer bearing in mind our finish to the season. Under the right guidance Guus Hiddink showed the football world what our team is capable of. We put such a run of games together with the current squad we have that people have sat up and took notice so I am not 100% certain that we need alot of changes. There will be the standard couple of players who leave each summer but its who we bring in, especially now as we have a new manager with new ideas that will be key.
The main thing is that the Manager will feel that he needs to strengthen, need to improve the squad in certain positions and build what we have already got but we need to be careful that we are not forced into signing someone for huge sums of money who will struggle to make an impact in the first team and the Premier League.
If I was in charge (I wish) I would be tempted to take a gamble on Pato, having been under Ancelloti for his whole career he would obviously be at an advantage, as the manager knows his strengths and weaknesses. Plus the fact that he is only 19, he has years ahead of him and we could afford to give him a few years to bed himself into the English game.
ReplyDeleteRibery has already stated that he has no desire to play in England, so we can forget about him.
Aguero would be a good signing, but would he be able to adapt to the pace and ferocity of the English game?
Pirlo, no thanks
Paul thanks for the comment and totally agree with you. I think out of the ones we are being linked with Pato seems the one that would be a great addition. I am the same as you about Pirlo ! LOL
ReplyDeleteFirst i must say i agree with both of u.. Pato would be a great addition to the team, his pace is unbelivable. And Chelsea should think of consistency as well in this matter. Pato is young and can perform at high level at the age of 19. Imagine what will he do on the pitch in 3 years or so especially under Carlo. The only problem here is that Galliani allready stated that he's off the market 100%. That leaves us with Aguero another top class forward and also very young. Youth is what Chelsea needs not Villa (27). Atletico won't let him cheap and his wage demands will be higher then Pato's, so he is a bigger risk. Zhirkov is another player who is close to signing for Chelsea but imo Sneider would a better solution for about the same amount (20m?) but proven at the highest level. But what to do with Malouda then, after the end of season he had it will be very hard to let him go. Ribery will go to real madrid or barca, if England then only Utd imo but as he stated that he will stay at bayern rather then go to England. And there is no room for Pirlo in Chelsea first eleven so he won't come for sure.
ReplyDeleteMaldini is the man i would really like to see in the team as well, his experience at the highest level are unique.

Hi Darian,
ReplyDeleteI think we all agree that Mancini has been different class for Milan but hasn't he retired now? Anyway I think he is too old to cut it in the Prem. Fully agree with you about Ribery and Villa.
No i ment Maldini would be perfect to fill in as advisor or assistent manager or something like that, not as player.. He retired this season as he will turn 42 this year. But Carlo and Maldini made a lot together and they would be lethal together here as well. But unfortunatlly Maldini allready turned down us: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/chelsea/article6482134.ece
ReplyDeleteSorry Darian, I take your point. He does speak good English too so imagine if he did work alongside Carlo and Ray Wilkins. But as you have said it looks like he has turned us down.
ReplyDeleteMy Recommended signings: Wesley Sneijder or Zhirkov (long term replacement for Frank Lampard), Aguero, Huntelaar ( for the cutting edge up front that we lacked so often last season), Glenn Johnson, some German center back to partner Terry....
